About Us

The Mercer Humane Society, founded over 50 years ago, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving Mercer County, Kentucky.

Our goal is to stop the overpopulation of community cats in Mercer County. This begins with community education and assistance to have community cats spayed and neutered.  Unless your cat is a purebred and you are planning to continue their bloodline, we also recommend having them spayed or neutered. Most veterinarians will advise this improves the long-term health of your pet.

 

We are currently located at 165 Eminence Avenue in Harrodsburg, within Mercer County, KY.  This facility is only for cats within our care and can be visited between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday - Friday.  Weekends are available by appointment only.

 

The Mercer Humane Society is solely dependent on private donations, grants, and community support. We receive no operating support from national animal welfare groups, or any national, state, county, or local government. Most people don’t realize we are not affiliated with the Mercer County Animal Control located on Moberly Road, which is funded by the Mercer County government.

 

With the continued support of our community, we’ll be able to continue helping control the population of unwanted cats in Mercer County, Kentucky.
